Man's body found in river
River Blakewater, where the body was found
A search team recovered the body from the river
Police are treating the death of a man whose body was found in a Lancashire river as suspicious.

The man was discovered in the River Blakewater close to Pump Street in Blackburn by a passer-by at 1215 GMT on Wednesday.

The dead man, who is believed to be aged between 30 and 50, has not yet been named.

An initial post-mortem examination has proved inconclusive.

An underwater search team was used to recover the body and police remained at the scene overnight.

Lancashire Police have set up an incident room and are treating the death as suspicious.

Detective Inspector Peter Broome said: "It is not yet known precisely how this man came to his death and investigations are continuing."
