Dhaka denies access to journalists

Lawyers representing two journalists working in Bangladesh for the British television network, Channel Four, say police are denying them access to their clients.

The lawyers also say they have not been provided with a copy of the complaints brought against their clients.

The two journalists, Zaiba Malik, who is British, and an Italian, Leopold Bruno Sorrentino, were charged with sedition after a court appearance on Tuesday.

They were remanded in custody for five days.

The pair were arrested on Monday after allegations appeared in the Bangladeshi press saying they were filiming extremist groups.

A spokesman for Channel Four has denied this, saying they were filming a general report on the political situation in Bangladesh.
