The mother of the late Diana Princess of Wales has been involved in a car crash in the west of Scotland.

Frances Shand Kydd, 66, was not injured in the accident which occurred at 0900 GMT on Wednesday on the B844 at Kilninver, near Oban, Argyll and Bute.

Mrs Shand Kydd, who lives on the Isle of Seil, near Oban, is understood to have been the sole occupant of the car.

Strathclyde Police did not name Mrs Shand Kydd as the driver of the vehicle.

Bridge parapet

They said a 66-year-old woman was driving an Audi car when it hit a bridge parapet.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that police attended a road crash at a single track road on the B844 at Kilninver, near Oban, about 0900 GMT."

The crash occurred when an Audi motor car being driven by a 66-year-old woman appears to have lost control and collided with a bridge parapet.

"The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured and there was no damage to property.

"Inquiries are complete and no persons have been charged."
