A Huddersfield council tenant who set off fire alarms and then threw missiles at arriving firefighters is to be evicted from his flat, a council has confirmed.

A court heard how Martin Calvin, 18, of Holme Park Court in Berry Brow, caused problems for other residents in the block of flats between July and October 2002.

Mr Calvin, who did not attend the hearing on Tuesday, also threatened the concierge.

Kirklees Council now plans to remove him from the flat after being awarded an immediate possession order at the hearing at Huddersfield County Court.

Scared tenants

A spokeswoman for the council said they hoped any other tenants who were scared to make complaints in the past would now come forward.

"In this case, all the complaints we had from tenants were anonymous but they alerted us to the problem and we were able to succeed at court by using other witnesses," she said.

She added: "Without the firefighters' evidence we wouldn't have been able to take this case to court - but, without our help, they wouldn't have been able to stop the nuisance either.

"It was a good example of multi-agency working to solve anti-social behaviour."
