Fire-fighters' Strike

The Fire Brigades Union were meeting the employers to discuss a likely 16% pay offer, tied to modernisation. The fire-fighters said it was not enough, the employers said they could not afford it without Government help, and the Government has made it clear there would be no new money. So could an eight day stoppage be avoided?

Iraq
The French and Americans were arguing about what would constitute a breach by Iraq of the latest United Nations resolutions. We talked to the Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, about where Britain sees itself in the argument about a possible war over the weapons inspections.
