Coffee served after shop killing
A kebab shop owner who beat his business partner to death with a broomstick before serving customers has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Kadir Bakar attacked 39-year-old Necati Samiloglu in his Turkish-run cafe after an argument over money. Before moving the body, he served a cup of coffee to a customer. The 55-year-old owner of Butty's Cafe in Reading, Berkshire, denied murder but was found guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Body dumped During the six-day trial at Kingston Crown Court, the jury heard how Bakar had also continued to serve food while the body of his business partner lay in the kitchen. He then cleaned up the floor and wrapped up the corpse in a black bin liner before dumping it in a secluded country road. Bakar was arrested when his chequebook was discovered close to the body. In police interviews after the killing on 28 March, 2001, he told detectives that his business partner had threatened him with a knife during the row. Bakar said he was too frightened to walk past him so he struck him with the broom that he had in his hand. Judge Charles Tilling also ordered Bakar to serve a concurrent 12-month sentence for perverting the course of justice by moving his victim's body.
