Sky Blues make Danish signing

Gordon Strachan: Could also tie up Italian striker Stefano Giocchino

Coventry City have completed the signing of Danish goalkeeper Morten Hyldgaard but he will not link up with the Sky Blues until next season.

The 6ft 5in Dane flew into England to tie up his initial £200,000 transfer which could eventually double depending on the number of first-team appearances he makes.

But the 20-year-old will complete the season with his Danish club Ikast before reporting to Highfield Road for pre-season training in July.

Meanwhile, manager Gordon Strachan's other recent signing, Italian striker Stefano Giocchino, has spelt out his desire to join Coventry on a permanent basis.

The 21-year-old has linked up with City on loan from Serie B club Venezia until the end of the current campaign after impressing in a trial period.

He said: "I hope I can stop even longer and if Coventry decide to take me I will be very happy. It is a dream of mine to play in England, and I will looking to do my best between now and May.

"There is a lot of competition for striking places, and Darren Huckerby, Noel Whelan and John Aloisi are very good players. All I can do is try to impress, and then it's down to the coach.

"I have settled in quickly here. The weather is a bit of a challenge - but it's up to me to adapt."

Sky Blues midfielder Philippe Clement, meanwhile, has set his sights on returning to training next week after missing the festive programme with a back problem.
