Police are hoping a £10,000 reward will encourage criminals into helping them solve a doorstep murder in east London.

The Metropolitan Police is offering the money to anyone who can help them make "significant progress" into the murder of Salik Choudhury on 3 November.

Mr Choudhury, 64, died after being stabbed in front of his seven-year-old daughter on his doorstep in Birchdale Road, Manor Park.

DCI Dave Anthony said: "We hope the offer of this substantial reward will encourage people who have not already come forward to do so.

"We are particularly hopeful the reward will attract members of the criminal fraternity who might not normally wish to assist police.

"All information will be treated in the strictest confidence."

Mr Choudhury was a devout Muslim, a community leader and was secretary of the Forest Gate Mosque in east London.

Police are also making inquiries at other mosques in east London, particularly Tower Hamlets.

Mr Choudhury's son Jamal will make an appeal on BBC Crimewatch on 27 November.
