Baardsen spurred on till 2004

Geroge Graham has persuaded Baardsen to stay at Spurs

Tottenham's Norwegian International goalkeeper, Espen Baardsen, has signed a new contract which will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2004.

Despite losing his first team place to Ian Walker and also being the subject of enquiries from other Premiership clubs, the 22-year-old is happy to commit himself to the club and manager George Graham.

Baardsen said: "I had offers from two other very big Premiership clubs but I chose Tottenham because I am happy at the club and I have friends in London.

"I thought over the other offers but I am happy to be staying at Tottenham."

The deal represents a success for both Graham and Spurs. The Norwegian had gone public about his frustration at only being on the bench and initially stalled over signing a new contract.
