Paramedic charged over death crash
Both vehicles were written off in the fatal accident
Police have charged a paramedic over the death of a woman motorist while driving an ambulance dangerously on a 999 call.
Ian Fitzgerald, 28, was charged on Wednesday with causing the death of Rosemary Fenney by dangerous driving. Police allege Mr Fitzgerald ploughed into Mrs Fenney's Peugeot 206 after jumping a red light. The 40-year-old motorist, from Paddock Road in Newbury, Berkshire, suffered multiple injuries and died after her car was crushed on 6 October. Written off The ambulance was at the junction of London Road and Hambridge Lane in Newbury on its way to an emergency. Both vehicles were written off in the collision. Thames Valley Police and the Royal Berkshire Ambulance NHS Trust are investigating the accident. Mr Fitzgerald, from Trowbridge in Wiltshire, will appear before Newbury Magistrates' Court on 27 November. He has been released on unconditional bail. |
