Policeman 'attacked' his lawyer wife
Scales of justice
A policeman attacked his new wife, a Crown Prosecution Service lawyer, after only a month of marriage, a court has heard.

Detective Constable Paul Wing is alleged to have injured Hilary Wing twice in two weeks.

DC Wing has been suspended from Thames Valley Police, which this week launched a campaign against domestic violence, pending the outcome of the court case.

The 37-year-old denied one count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and another of actual bodily harm at Oxford Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Released on bail

The policeman, who works in the Windsor, Ascot, Bracknell, Crowthorne and Maidenhead areas, held his head bowed throughout the hearing.

DC Wing allegedly attacked his wife at their home in Reading on 30 October and 7 November this year.

Mrs Wing works in the Reading office of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Thames Valley Police are helping promote the White Ribbon Campaign, a week of fundraising to help the one in five British women who suffer violence at home.

The campaign runs from 18 - 25 November.

The case is being run by Wiltshire CPS and heard in Oxford, to remove it from the area where both the defendant and his wife are well known.

DC Wing was released on bail on condition he did not return to the marital home and was ordered to appear at Oxford Crown Court next Monday.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "DC Ward has been suspended from duty at this time and Thames Valley Police awaits the outcome of the court case before deciding any further internal action."
