Doubts over Aceh peace deal

Differences are emerging between the Indonesian government and separatist rebels in Aceh province over a proposed peace deal to end the long-running conflict.

International mediators had indicated that both sides were prepared to sign the agreement on 9 December in Geneva.

However, the leadership of the Free Aceh Movement issued a statement from exile in Sweden saying no agreement had yet been reached and no date set for the signing.

On the Indonesian side, the vice-president, Hamzah Haz, said there would be only one agreement - and little tolerance for any rebel group that continued to fight after it had been signed.
