At least two-hundred-and-forty one people have died due to the cold weather in Mexico, according to government officials.

A month of severe cold in the northern states of Chihuaha and Durango has led to most of the deaths, from acute respiratory diseases.

Bad weather has also seriously affected oil exports from the Gulf of Mexico.
