Speed cameras sought for crash site
Campaigner wants speed cameras on the road
Campaigner wants speed cameras on the road
Campaigners are calling for speed cameras on the A12 near Wangford in Suffolk after a man died in a head-on collision.

David Woodley, 31, from Lowestoft, died when his car was involved in an accident on the road on 17 November.

The Reverend Graham Owen, the vicar for Wangford, has begun a campaign for speed cameras and a new speed limit.

"There certainly is a feeling that we're not being served best by the authorities, who could, and should, be doing something about this", he said.

'Learning lessons'

"Peoples' lives are at stake now."

He said villagers were concerned because the crash was not the first fatal accident at Wangford, near Southwold.

David Chenery, Suffolk County Council's traffic and safety manager, said he would be studying reports of the latest accident to see what lessons have to be learned.

He said the county was putting a bid in to the government for more fixed and mobile speed cameras and they would be sited in areas where there are safety concerns.

"We are seeking a reduction in the number who are killed and seriously injured on our roads," he said.

"We have met recent targets, but it requires continuous efforts by the council, the Highways Agency and the police."
