The fifth stage of this year's Dakar rally has ended in the town of Atar in Mauritania.

Kenjiro Shinozuka of Japan, in second place overall, won today's leg - the first in which drivers encountered hazardous sand dunes.
Today's Wednesday sixth stage is a four-hundred and fifty-eight kilometre run between Atar and the town of Tidjikia.
