Shop jobs boost for Wakefield
Sainsbury's is key to the new shopping complex
A new £60m shopping complex planned for Wakefield will create hundreds of jobs, it has been claimed.
Developers of the Marsh Way scheme say the new 410,000 sq ft complex will dramatically improve the shopping facilities available in the city. The project, to be built next to Wakefield's main shopping district, includes plans for a new Sainsbury's store, a library and new bus route. Local property developer Simons Estates, working in partnership with the supermarket chain, plans to regenerate a 23 acre area of the city for the complex. Derelict land, run-down buildings and an under-used multi-storey car park will all be re-developed under the plans submitted to Wakefield Council. Councillor Denise Jeffery said they were delighted with how the plans are coming together. "It will revitalise the city centre and dramatically improve the facilities for shoppers, residents and visitors to Wakefield, as well as creating hundreds of new jobs," she said.
