Police hunt after driver stabbed
police at the scene
The attack happened as the man slowed at roadworks
Detectives in north wales are investigating after a man was pulled from his van, stabbed repeatedly, then robbed at a set of traffic lights.

Police say they believe the attacker may have been trying to steal the van in the incident, which happened near Bangor in the early hours of Tuesday.

The 30-year-old man had been driving his van at 0420 GMT along the Bangor and to Felinheli by-pass.

He slowed down at a set of temporary traffic lights and a man jumped out from behind roadworks and flagged him down.

Almost instantly he dragged the driver out of the car, stabbed him three times - in the hands and in the thigh - and stole his wallet.

Police say the driver may have thrown his keys away to stop his van being stolen.

Information appeal

The driver is said to be in a comfortable condition in hospital. He has so far only been able to describe his attacker as a large man with dark hair.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Chief Inspecto Gwion Jones said the incident was an unusual one for the Bangor area.

"It is very rare - a very unusual occurrence," he said.

"We are still looking into it and trying to work out the background."
