Entertainment Women dominate Grammy nominations Lauryn Hill: Finding success away from the Fugees
Women are leading the pack for this year's Grammy awards with singer Lauryn Hill receiving 10 nominations for her debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Hill will compete against a mainly all-female field for album of the year. The singer, who has already won two of the music industry's top
awards for her work with the R&B trio The Fugees,
also received nominations in the best new artist, pop, R&B, rap and
producer categories.
Canadian country singer Shania Twain and bluesy-rocker
Sheryl Crow each scored six nominations, pop veteran Madonna
had five and French-Canadian diva Celine Dion and
rhythm-and-blues star Brandy had four each.
Madonna: Five nominations
However men didn't go totally unrecognised as a number of males received multiple nominations, including Vince Gill (four), Kirk Franklin (four), Shania Twain producer/co-writer Robert John "Mutt" Lange (five), recording engineers Jeff Balding (five) and Pat McCarthy (four), engineer/producer Tchad Blake (four) and producer William Orbit, who guided Madonna's Ray Of Light (four).
Country's Dixie Chicks and opera singer Andrea Bocelli join pop/alternative newcomer Natalie Imbruglia, urban vocal group Backstreet Boys and the multi-genre Hill in the line-up for Best New Artist.
Record of the Year nominations go to the Brandy/Monica duet The Boy Is Mine, Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On, the Goo Goo Dolls' Iris, Madonna's Ray Of Light and Shania Twain's You're Still The One.
