US heightens Egypt security alert

Americans living in Egypt have been told to maintain a high level of security because of the continuing risk of attack by Ismalic militants.

The United States embassy in Cairo has upgraded a general warning to American citizens abroad by saying that it has what it calls reliable information about possible attacks by extremist elements.

The embassy advised thousands of Americans working in Egypt, or visiting the country, to keep a low profile and to treat mail from unfamiliar sources with caution.
