Battersea entry for Rusedski

Greg Rusedski (centre): Back for Battersea

Greg Rusedski has confirmed he will play in the Guardian Direct Cup at London's Battersea Park next month.

Rusedski joins a star-studded field including reigning Australian Open champion Petr Korda, 1997 Wimbledon finalist Cedric Pioline and former Wimbledon winner Richard Krajicek.

Rusedski said: "I'm really looking forward to playing in Battersea Park.

"The atmosphere was fantastic last year. I just hope I can progress to the later stages this year and I am sure I can with the support of a home crowd."

The British number two, who finished 1998 ninth in the world rankings, will be anxious to wipe out the memory of his shock first-round exit from last year's tournament to Germany's Marc-Kevin Goellner.

The 1999 event, in the same super-tent as last year, begins on February 22.
