Cameroon banned

The green and gold of Cameroon has been banned from the world stage

FIFA has suspended Cameroon's Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and banned the national team and the country's clubs from playing in international competitions and friendlies.

In a statement late on Monday, world soccer's governing body said the decision was taken after Cameroon's Youth and Sports Ministry sent a fax on December 29, which "contained reservations" over a plan of action agreed late last year to restore order within Cameroon soccer.

The ban is immediate and indefinite.

FIFA said: "FIFA deeply regrets that in spite of innumerable efforts and patience which it has displayed in approaching the Cameroon file, it has been obliged to take such a decision."

FIFA set up a 12-member interim committee to restore order within Cameroon soccer, in disarray since its former president Vincent Onana was detained over a World Cup tickets sale scandal in June.

He was suspended from his post in August, along with FECAFOOT's national management committee.
