The authorities in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, have ruled that women arriving in the country must cover their hair, arms and legs, in strict Islamic fashion.
The official news agency, SUNA, said the Khartoum committee which applies public order had ruled that women should dress in a manner that takes account of Islamic values.
Correspondents say although the committee only has jurisdiction in Khartoum, other northern Sudanese provinces tend to follow the capital's example.
