Bosnia to ask for Abdic extradition

Officials in Bosnia-Hercegovina say they will ask Croatia to hand over the former Bosnia Muslim separatist leader, Fikret Abdic, who is now a Croatian citizen.

It follows a decision yesterday on Monday by the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague to allow the Bosnian authorities to prosecute Mr Abdic for war crimes.

Mr Abdic led a revolt in the northern enclave of Bihac against the Sarajevo authorities during the Bosnian war.

He says he'll fight allegations that he treated prisoners of war inhumanely and forced people into the army.

Correspondents say a demand for his extradition could strain relations between Bosnia and Croatia.
