Mexico's mile-long cake

Thousands of people in the centre of Mexico City have begun tucking into slices of a record-breaking cake.

Stretching for nearly two kilometres, it's been officially recorded as the country's longest.

Three hundred bakeries took part, using thirty thousand eggs and six tons of flour.

It's a traditional event but this time, as a precaution, lucky figurines were left out of the giant pastry.

A previous attempt to break the record failed when the cake was mauled by people hoping to claim a prize.

Known as a rosca, the cake is traditionally eaten during celebrations marking the twelfth day of Christmas.
