Police in the Philippines say at least nine people have been killed and dozens more wounded in a grenade attack in the southern town of Jolo.

The victims were in a crowd watching firemen tackle a blaze.

Police suspect a radical Islamic guerilla group called Abu Sayyaf -- meaning the Swordbearer -- carried out the attack to avenge the killing of two of its leaders by security forces last month.
