Huge snowstorms have been blowing across the American mid-west, paralysing transport and communications.
Hundreds of airline flights have been cancelled and many roads are blocked or dangerous.
Some areas have declared emergencies, banning unnecessary travel.
Over forty centimetres of snow fell on Chicago and with more on the way, forecasters said it could prove the worst snowstorm to hit the city since records began.
