Saturday, January 2, 1999 Published at 20:07 GMT World: Africa Sudanese opposition antigovernment protests . Reports from Sudan say hundreds of opposition supporters marched through the streets of Khartoum's twin city, Omdurman, yesterday chanting anti-government slogans. The Sudanese opposition radio said Saturday evening police used tear gas and vehicles to disperse the protestors. The demonstration was organised by the outlawed Democratic Unionist Party, one of several parties which haverefused to register under new legislation allowing the formation of political associations. Opposition parties said they should not have to ask permission to operate under a constitution which, they say, reflects only the views of the Islamist government.
