Clubs queue up for England pair ![]() Steve McManaman takes on the Arsenal defence England teammates Steve McManaman and Rio Ferdinand are transfer targets for some of Europe's biggest clubs. Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly ready to offer winger McManaman £110,000 a week to join them when his contract with Liverpool runs out in the summer. New rules mean the 26-year-old can begin talks with interested clubs because his current deal has only six months left before expiry. McManaman has also been linked with Barcelona, Inter and AC Milan, Juventus and Lazio. But The Sun newspaper claims Real have prepared a four-year contract, worth a total of £5.72m.
Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are thought to monitoring his situation, but the Daily Mail claims they will face competition from the continent if West Ham decide to sell him. The newspaper says Juventus, Inter Milan and Barcelona have indicated they are willing to spend up to £15m on Ferdinand. But manager Harry Redknapp said talks were under way to improve Ferdinand's current contract. "How many times can I keep on saying it? Rio is not for sale. He is happy here, this is his club and he is not interested in moving on. We always look after people at West Ham and we have looked after Rio since he was 15," he added. The club is currently sixth in the Premiership table and challenging for a place in Europe next season. Ferdinand's future may be decided by whether they succeed or not. |
