England beaten in Bowral

Adam Hollioake - in excellent form with the bat

Skipper Adam Hollioake's excellent form with the bat was not enough to save England's one-day side from a 51-run defeat by a Don Bradman XI in Bowral.

The Surrey all-rounder followed up his 81 against a Queensland Country side by top scoring with 67, made at rate of a run per ball, but England were bowled out for just 187.

Fraser: Rewarded for a tidy spell
Former Australian Test off-spinner Greg Matthews did the main damage by taking four for 33.

"We're still pretty jet-lagged, a bit weary and flat. We only got in on Monday and had a 6.00am flight out of Brisbane yesterday, plus New Year's Eve last night," said Hollioake.

"Once we get some time in the nets and the full squad is together, we'll be a different team."

The home side had earlier totalled 238 for six in their 50 overs, with Corey Richards making 62.

Scott Thompson and Phil Emery produced some bold hitting as the Bradman XI amssed 82 from the final ten overs, with Thompson taking 19 off a single over from Vince Wells.

Angus Fraser, dropped from England's Test squad, celebrated his MBE in the New Year Honours list with impressive figures of three for 25 from 10 overs.

The loss of Nick Knight and Ben Hollioake, both dismissed by Brett Lee, with less than 40 on the board left England with an uphill task and only Wells (31) offered prolonged support to his captain.
