Friday, January 1, 1999 Published at 04:59 GMT World: Americas Gore goes for President The United States Vice President, Al Gore, is reported to have become the first official candidate in the race to succeed Bill Clinton in two years' time. The Washington Post newspaper says he has filed documents with the Federal Election Commission, creating his campaign committee and allowing him to raise money, hire staff and campaign across the country. Mr Gore is currently seen as strong favourite for the Democratic party's nomination. On the Republican party side, the early favourite is the Governor of Texas, George W.
