The Euro made its global market debut in India.
The country has the only major foreign exchange market to remain open today Friday coinciding with the Euro's launch.
However, dealers in the commercial capital, Bombay, say interest there in the new currency will only pick up next week when other international markets re-open after the New Year holiday.
Dealers quoted the Indian rupee at 49.769 to the Euro - a quote derived from the rate of 1.16 dollars to the euro set on Thursday.
