Thursday, December 31, 1998 Published at 18:25 GMT UK Men charged over road death ![]() Royal Ulster Constabulary: Charged two men Two men have been remanded in custody after being charged in connection with the death of a seven-year-old boy knocked down by a taxi in west Belfast. Steven Sweeney, 25, and Paul McCusker, 27, whose addresses were not given, are jointly accused of hijacking. Mr Sweeney is also charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. The charges relate to the death of Eamon Armstrong, who was killed when a taxi hit him as he walked along the Falls Road with his family on Tuesday. His mother Paula and her boyfriend Martin Dornan remain critically ill in intensive care after undergoing major surgery for multiple fractures following the incident. A detective inspector told Belfast magistrates that when charged Mr McCusker said "no". Mr Sweeney made no reply to three of the charges and said "no" to one charge of causing grievous bodily harm. Both men were remanded in custody until 28 January. |
