India first to deal in Euro

TO FOLLOW 1000 EURO LAUNCH India will be the first major international money market to start trading in the Euro.

This is because India will be the only major foreign exchange market to remain open tomorrow, coinciding with the Euro's New Year's Day launch.

However, dealers in India's commercial capital, Bombay say interest there in the new currency will only pick up next week when other international markets re-open and begin trading in the Euro after the holidays.
