UN official charged over Croatia "fraud"

A United Nations official supervising travel arrangements for UN peacekeepers in the former Yugoslavia has been arrested in New York and charged with fraud.

The man, Charles Kim - an American citizen - is accused of extorting almost half a million dollars from a Croatian travel agency.

The prosecution alleges that Mr Kim told the agency in Zagreb to submit exaggerated invoices to the UN and pass the resulting extra money to him.

Prosecutors said the investigation was still continuing.
