The United States says Honduran and Nicaraguan migrants will be allowed to work in the country for eighteen months while their homelands recover from Hurricane Mitch.

But a spokesman said the same reprieve will not be granted to Guatemalans and Salvadorans because the damage there was not as extensive-- although deportation of illegal immigrants from the two countries will be suspended for another sixty days.
