Reds hot for Kippe

Jamie Carragher (left) could soon have a new a partner

Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier looks set to bring Norwegian teenage defender Frode Kippe to Anfield in a deal worth potentially £2 million.

The Lillestrom centre-back is expected to arrive next week after his club accepted a £700,000 fee with more money promised dependant on the players' success and future appearances.

Liverpool tried to sign the player earlier this year after Kippe had impressed while on trial. When Lillestrom initially demanded £2million up front, Liverpool pulled out.

But it now seems that the Norwegians have accepted that that valuation was too high and are willing to let the under 21 international go.

Cameroon defender Rigobert Song could still become a Liverpool player
"He's not ready for the first team yet but he could be in 18 months. He's a very good prospect." said the Liverpool boss.

"It's important that we prepare for the future as well as live for the present." he added.

Meanwhile, Houllier has is still keen to secure the services of Rigobert Song.

Liverpool have given Italian club Salernitana 48 hours to decide whether to accept the £2.6m bid for the Cameroon defender, who also impressed on a recent trial on Merseyside.
