Pensioner injured by hit-and-run driver
Scene of the accident in Hoveton
Police are confident they will find the driver
An elderly man is in hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run accident.

Leonard Moakes, 84, was struck as he was crossing the road outside his home in Hoveton, Norfolk, on Monday evening.

He is now in intensive care suffering from very serious head and chest injuries and a fractured pelvis.

His granddaughter Alison Hindley said: "To leave an 84-year-old man in the road - we just don't know what to think."

Mr Moakes suffered severe head injuries
Mr Moakes was crossing Horning Road West at the junction with Tunstead Road just after 1700 GMT on Monday when the accident happened.

Inspector Neil Ferguson said: "We're confident that the driver knew that they had collided with someone."

Police do not yet have a description of the car which hit Mr Noakes, but believe its front and near side would have been damaged in the accident.

Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses, and say the area would have been busy with rush-hour traffic at the time.

They say they are confident they will find the driver responsible.
