Cattle run loose across motorway
About 20 cows and bulls had to be rounded up
A man has died and five people were injured after a lorry carrying cattle overturned on the M5 motorway in Worcestershire.
Two animals were killed and about 30 cows and bulls had to be rounded up and sedated after the accident near Droitwich at 1055 GMT on Tuesday. The northbound carriageway was closed and traffic was brought to a standstill following the crash which involved four heavy goods vehicles. Sergeant Mark Watkins, from Central Motorway Police, said a farmer and a vet had to be called in to help out. Farmer's help "One man had to be airlifted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital but has since died and five other people have been injured," he said. "We believe two animals were either killed in the collision or had to be put down when the lorry overturned. "Police fire and ambulance were called to the scene and we had to call a vet out to sedate the animals. "We also had to ask a local farmer to help us round up the cattle because they were running loose across the motorway. "It took two hours to round up the cattle into a nearby field." |
