Winner claims his Jag at last
Charles Buckley didn't even know he had won
A man from Leeds who sparked a national hunt for his identity after winning a £13,000 sportscar has come forward to claim his prize.
Charles Buckley, 50, who lives in the Belle Isle area of the city says he is still "stunned and shell-shocked" at the news he has won a Jaguar XJ-S. Mr Buckley entered the prize draw at the national motor show but left the wrong phone number on the ticket stub. He only found out he had won after his brother saw an appeal from the organisers on the BBC's Look North television programme.
"It was one of those competitions you enter and never really expect to win," Mr Buckley told BBC News Online. "I only entered because it was a good cause and I thought 'why not?' But I'm pleased and honoured to win it." Proceeds from the draw went to cancer charities. After losing two close friends to the disease in the past year it is a cause Mr Buckley supports strongly. Now the charities are set to benefit even more because Mr Buckley says he intends to sell the Jaguar and give them at least a third of the profits. "I've got to be realistic. I can't really afford to run a Jaguar and I'd be a nervous wreck at the thought of it sitting outside my house at night."
