India sacks navy chief
The Indian government has sacked its navy chief, Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat.
A government statement said that the admiral had acted in defiance of the cabinet's control of the defence forces.
The admiral had been involved in recent weeks in a dispute with the Defence Ministry over the nomination of his deputy.
Vice Admiral Sushil Kumar has been appointed to replace him.
