Girl dies from fire injuries

A 10-year-old girl rescued from a fire with her pregnant mother and three sisters has died in hospital.

Zoe Harvey lost her fight for life in Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, after injuries suffered in the blaze that swept through the family's home in Gatley, Greater Manchester, early on Sunday.

Her mother, Julie, is still in a stable condition in Withington Hospital, Manchester. Her daughters Katie, aged six, and three-year-old Lisa Jane are in Manchester's Booth Hall Children's Hospital.

Her father, Graham Harvey, and the couple's youngest daughter, 18-month-old Holly, were both discharged from hospital on Monday.

The family made a dramatic escape as their detached home was destroyed by the fire.

Mr Harvey escaped by leaping from a first-floor window into the arms of a neighbour but his wife, clutching Holly, refused to leave the blazing house until she knew all her family were safe.

She handed the toddler to a fire officer before being led to safety down a ladder.

The results of an investigation into the cause of the fire have now been passed to the coroner. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
