Cameroonian cartoonist flees

A prominent Cameroonian cartoonist, Nyam Tongo, is reported to have fled the country after complaining of repeated threats to his life.

Mr Tongo, who worked for the private newspaper, Le Messager, said the threats had been made by unidentified people, who accused him of ridiculing senior Cameroonian officials and the country's first lady.

Reporters sans Frontieres, which campaigns for press freedom, has called on the Cameroonian authorities to investigate the threats.
