Mother of the surviving octuplets leaves hospital

The mother of the seven surviving octuplets born in the United States has spoken publically for the first time before preparing to leave hospital.

Nigerian born Nkem Chukwu told reporters that she suffered the discomfort and difficulty of carrying the babies to term for one reason - love.

Although Mrs Chukwa will be going home today, her children remain in a critical condition and are expected to stay in hospital for another three months.

Doctors at St Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Texas say she is under orders to take her time getting back to normal life.

Flanked by her husband and mother at the news conference, Mrs Chukwu thanked god several times, and said she would try to visit her babies every day, as they are still a part of her.
