Water company gets kids drinking

Tap water has never been healthier

Yorkshire Water has launched a campaign to get more kids drinking their tap water.

The company has revealed that water quality in England and Wales is at record levels and is eager to promote its benefits to the region's youngsters.

Children at Worthinghead Primary School in Bradford are helping to launch the initiative - a nationwide art and writing competition.

Best entries from across the UK will be used to make an educational book about the "science of water" and the event is being tied in with the National Curriculum.

Yorkshire Water hopes the competition will banish the "boring" reputation of water amongst children.

It is determined to ensure the nation's youngsters know how good tap water is for them.

Dehydration is the biggest problem for anyone not drinking enough fluids, and according to Yorkshire Water's Education Officer Anne Reid, this is something that children must learn.

"It's important for children to get into the habit of drinking water on a regular basis," she said.

"Dehydration can have a damaging effect not only on their health, but their education too."
