Beim eyes Kingsholm return

Tom Beim - seeking a fresh start

Gloucester are leading the race to sign Sale's transfer-listed winger Tom Beim.

The 23-year-old England international left Kingsholm for Sale in September 1996 but is a friend of Gloucester's new captain, Rob Fidler.

Beim asked Sale for a transfer after seeing 16st replacement Steve Handley score four tries in three league games from his left-wing position while he was sidelined by injury.

"Tom would figure in our plans for the next two to three years and will fit into our set-up very well," said Fidler's father John, the Gloucester team manager.

Beim has scored 32 tries in 160 club appearances, plus one in his two games for England.

Gloucester are also interested in signing 32-year-old Bristol prop Dave Hinkins, whose contract expired on New Year's Eve.

"Now he is a free agent, and we are looking to bring him here for the rest of the season on a trial basis. If it works out we would want him here on a one-year contract next summer," Fidler added.
