Tuesday, December 29, 1998 Published at 09:57 GMT World: Asia-Pacific Woman indicted in mass curry-poisoning in Japan Police in Japan have charged a woman with murder, in connection with the mass poisoning of people celebrating a festival in the western town of Sonobe in July. Four people died and more than sixty others became ill after eating curry laced with arsenic. The woman, Masumi Hayashi, denies the charges. She and her husband have been in custody since October, while separate allegations are investigated that they poisoned people in order to claim insurance payments for medical treatment.
