Floral tributes to murdered student
Flowers laid where Daniel Davies was attacked
Friends hope the tribute will help jog peoples' memories
Friends and family of a murdered student have turned a corner of Manchester into a floral tribute to his life in the hope of finding new leads.

Daniel Davies, of Knowsley, Merseyside, was attacked at the corner of Great Bridgewater Street and Oxford Road, in the early hours of Saturday 2 November.

The 19-year-old first year student had been on a night out with about 10 friends in Manchester, where he was studying.

His friends said they hoped the tribute at the spot where he suffered his fatal injuries would jog peoples' memories about the incident.

One friend, Nicholas Coyne, said: "We thought if we brought a little bit of attention to the area hopefully it would help us find some leads.

"As much as it's here for us, it's here for the people of Manchester, anyone who was around on the night.

"Whatever they've seen, however big or small, we hope it will provide the police with some information that will bring us justice in the end."

He added: "Daniel will always be in our hearts, the memories we have of him are as a fun-loving lad, full of the zest of life.

"I went away on holiday with him this summer and he was always first up, first out, last in at night - he was a superb boy.

"It is a tragic, tragic waste of a life."

Police believe Daniel may have been punched after another man heard his Merseyside accent.

He was with a group of 10 friends returning from a night out when there was an altercation between the two groups.

Daniel was hit in the face and fell to the ground. He died in hospital three days later.

Extra police officers patrolled the area on Friday night and a mobile unit was set up in the hope that more witnesses may come forward.

CCTV footage of people who may have witnessed the attack has been released by police.

Daniel was a first year student studying town and country planning and had only been living in Manchester for two months.
