Many Indonesian parties face election chop

The Indonesian Minister for Home Affairs, Syarwan Hamid, says that most of the political parties that have been formed in Indonesia over the last year are unlikely to qualify to participate in parliamentary elections expected in June.

Mr Hamid said only about fifteen of the new groups are likely to meet the required conditions to contest the elections.

More than a-hundred parties have been formed in Indonesia since former-President Suharto was forced from office in May.
