Tuesday, December 29, 1998 Published at 00:56 GMT World: Americas Colombia peace talks The Colombian high commissioner for peace, Victor Ricardo, has been holding talks with representatives of the biggest guerrilla group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. The two sides are trying to finalise the agenda for peace talks, which are due to begin next month. The negotiations, which aim to end more than thirty years of guerrilla conflict, are to be attended by the Colombian president, Andres Pastrana, and the rebel leader, Manuel Marulanda. Mr Pastrana said on Sundaythat the presidents of Mexico and Cuba will send personal representatives to the meeting. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
