Portuguese lawyers seek Suharto extradition

Portuguese human rights lawyers say they're to seek the extradition of former Indonesian president Suharto for crimes allegedly committed during his country's occupation of East Timor.

The Portuguese section of the International Jurists' Commission said in Geneva that it would file suit against Mr Suharto in Portugal next month.

Human rights groups say at least two-hundred thousand Timorese were killed, many of them in summary executions, after the Indonesian invasion in 1975 and subsequent annexation of the territory.
